SKI RESORTS

Thredbo

Thredbo is our pick of resorts this season with fewer queues and plenty of great trails and events. Thredbo is a 15-minute scenic drive up the Alpine Way making for a very convenient commute! You will need a National Parks Pass for your car and we recommend purchasing your lift tickets in advance. Check out their events page to see whether they have Aprés at the hotel!

PERISHER

Perisher is also a great resort with loads of trails to explore. This season Perisher car park has been filling up on the weekends. So we recommend catching The Ski Tube which is only 5 minutes down the road. It is an extra add-on to your Lift Pass but it will save you time and the disappointment of not getting into the resort! You do not require a Parks Pass for the Ski-Tube.

Charlotte’s Pass

Charlotte’s Pass is a great alternative to save some dollars and try something a little different. While the resort is smaller it will still keep you happily skiing for a day and enjoying the big backcountry views. With the historic old lodges, pub, and relaxed staff there is a certain charm to Charlotte’s that makes it worth checking out. Passes include on-snow transport from the Perisher Ski Tube.

BACKCOUNTRY

Thredbo

Thredbo has some stellar backcountry access if you are looking to experience something outside of the resort. This is the most direct access to Mt. Kosciuszko if you want to take on the challenge of summiting in winter! We always recommend a guide for the backcountry and this is our favourite!

K7 Adventures

Deadhorse Gap

Deadhorse Gap is a snowgum-filled winter wonderland! With a woody access trail to some stunning scenes, it makes for a perfect half-day outing or winter picnic spot (if the weather is good). We always recommend a guide for the backcountry and K7 Adventures are our go-to!

K7 Adventures

Guthega

Guthega has some great backcountry access and plenty of Snowy River views. While the Illawong Hike is a little tedious you also get the reward of crossing the Snowy River on a suspension bridge. This is the best way to experience the wonders of Blue Lake, Mt Twynam, and The Western Faces. Again you will need a guide!

R&R

Lake Crackenback

f you walk up the Thredbo River Track from Thredbo Golf Course you will come across a few nice swimming spots, further up and you’ll find Cascades Falls. Follow the map directions to Rockpool Lodge and clamber into the scrub behind in search of hidden rock pools. If you are swimming in Crackenback follow the Bullocks map link below for easy river access (walk down the concrete path and take the left-hand turn on the track closest to the river - walk for a few mins and keep an eye out on the right for a grassy area with a natural pool).

The Spa

The Denman

The Snowy River originates on the slopes of Mount Kosciuszko, so it’s very ‘refreshing’ in Summer. While it’s a bit of a walk the best swimming spots are accessed from Guthega along the Illawong Track. Island Bend provides closer and easier access to The Snowy, located on the way to Guthega. Alternatively, for a warmer section of the river head down to historic Dalgety (en route to the brewery) and jump in there. While not as clear and fresh you may spot Platypus.

Edelweiss Spa

Alpine Gables

Lake Jindabyne has miles of foreshore and water access. It’s also a hub for fishing, kayaking, supping, wakeboarding, waterskiing, and any other on-water activity you can think of! Jindabyne Sailing Club has a great lawn that fronts the water. The caravan park at Snowline has beautiful poplar trees immersed in water and Rushes Bay at East Jindabyne has willows and vistas! Check out the links below for maps and equipment hire.
